Thursday evening: meet for drinks at the hotel and an informal introduction to our tour before dinner in a local restaurant.
Friday: Morning visit to Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris, the Modernist city par excellence:
in addition to its spectacular Town-Hall, Boulogne houses the little known 1930s Museum with furniture by Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Jacques Ruhlmann,etc. as well as collections of Picasso’s art-dealer, Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler. In the afternoon we visit Villa Roche, a private residence
built by architect Le Corbusier from 1923 in the spirit of L’Esprit Nouveau. Evening at leisure.
Saturday: Explore couturier Jeanne Lanvin’s private apartment, and Pierre Chareau’s Bureau d’une Ambassade française
at the newly re-opened period rooms of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. View work by René Lalique,
Eileen Gray and Jean Dunand. We explore the Louvre des Antiquaires and the Avenue Montaigne in the afternoon to see quality Art Deco pieces
currently in dealers’hands. Evening at leisure.
Sunday: a visit to Musée d’Art Moderne to see the influence of contemporary art movements on Art Deco - including
Cubism, Robert Delaunay’s Orphism and Raoul Duffy’s decorative work. Our journey in the Paris of the 1920s-30s ends by 12noon.
